An appeal to American Jewry to provide $50,000 for the Yiddish Art Theatre, which was recently re-organized into a communal enterprise, was made at a press conference here yesterday.
The conference was addressed by Louis Gordon, president of the reorganized theatre, Maurice Schwartz, former owner of the theatre who is now its art direction, and Herman Yablokov, executive secretary of the theatre, Nathan Chanin, leader of the Workmen’s Circle largest Jewish fraternal organization in the U.S. and Louis Segal, leader of the Far band-Labor Zionist Order, stressed the cultural value of the Yiddish Art Theatre and pledged the financial support of their organizations.
