The All-Ukrainian Yiddish conference called for the purpose of purifying the Yiddish language closed today in Kharkow. The closing speech was delivered by the Ukrainian Minister of Education, M. Zatonsky, who praised the Soviet development of Biro-Bidjan an autonomous Jewish unit.
Before the conference began the “jargonizers” seemed on the point of winning, but a blast from Maxim Gorky, dean of Soviet writers, criticizing young authors from their slipshod use of Russian, reacted on the other languages as well, and the advocates of a pure Yiddish won out.
