Ten Yiddish novelists, dramatists and poets were the recipients of literary prizes awarded by the World Congress for Yiddish Culture here last night. The prizes carry cash awards of $125 to $500.
The highest award of $500 went to Teo Arczishevsky, of Paris, for a drama still in manuscript. Two awards of $300 each were given to H. Leivick, noted Jewish poet, for his dramatic poem “In the Days of Job” and to I. Metzker for a novel. Prizes of $250 each were awarded to David Pinsky and Leizer Treister for dramas.
A $200 prize went to an Israeli writer Jacob Friedman for a book in Yiddish published in Tel Aviv. Two prizes of $125 each went to Dr. Chaim Shoshkes of New York and Moshe Grossman of Israel for travel impressions. Two prizes of $100 each went to I. Spiegel and Pinkhas Welner for short stories published in “Goldene Keit,” a literary magazine published in Yiddish in Israel.
