Yigal Yadin, former Chief of Operations, today was appointed Chief of Staff of the Israel Army, with the rank of Brigadier General at a brief ceremony held in the office of Premier David Ben Gurion.
In the presence of a number of spectators, the Premier read aloud a letter handed earlier to Yaacov Dori, the outgoing Chief of Staff, assenting to his request a month ago to be relieved of his duties owing to the state of his health. Among those present, besides the Premier, were Moshe Sharett, Israel Foreign Minister; Dov Joseph, Minister of Supply and Rationing; and a number of high-ranking army officers.
The Israel-Syrian mined armistice commission met yesterday at the Syrian customs house near Bnot Yaacov, and discussed routine matters. The next session is scheduled for Monday at Rosh Pinah.
