Yitzhak Rabin’s murder prevented a peace deal between Israel and Syria, a former top Syrian official said. Abed al-Halim Khadem, a former Syrian vice president who is now in exile in France, told the Israeli Arab newspaper al-Sinara that Israel and Syria were on the brink of peace in 1995 when the Israeli leader was assassinated.
