The State Legislature of Rio Province will celebrate Israel’s Independence Day every year on May 14, according to a special resolution adopted by that body on the occasion of Israel’s 28th anniversary. May 14 is the day Israel’s independence was proclaimed according to the Gregorian calendar.
The resolution was presented by Dr. Mauricio Pinkusfeld, a representative on the government party list and adopted by 94 deputies of both parties. The first celebration was held last Friday when Jewish leaders were invited to the presidium table by the president of the legislature, Jose Pinto. Among them was Haim Nigri, president of the Rio de Janeiro Zionist Organization.
