Orthodox Jews in Moscow yesterday observed Yom Kippur with traditional fasting and at solemn religious services conducted both in the synagogue here and in auxiliary “worship circles” in various parts of the city. The Main Synagogue was packed, with the stream of Day of Atonement worshippers moving in and out of the buff-walled edifice all day long.
Israel Minister to Moscow Mordecai Namir, accompanied by members of the Jewish state’s delegation, also attended services, as did many Jews in the diplomatic colony here. Prayers for world peace were recited at the services in the Main Synagogue.
