Young Israel, at the closing session last night of the twenty-fifth annual convention of its national council, decided to convoke a conference of all religious denominations for united action against governments suppressing religious worship and observance.
The convention declared that all Jews faithful to the Torah would refuse to recognize agreements undermining the Jewish inheritance in the Land of Israel. A resolution requested the United States Government to demand of Great Britain that it fulfill its obligations under the Balfour Declaration.
Jacob O, Zabronsky, of Brooklyn, was elected president of the organization, Mr. Rosenzweig, treasurer, and Mr. Eidelman and Edna Ascher, secretaries.
The convention decided to take the initiative in forming a committee of all Jewish religious, educational, literary and artistic bodies to safeguard the purity of the Yiddish spoken and written word on radio, stage, and in print.
Other resolutions called for mobilization against calendar reform, urged the New York Board of Aldermen to pass immediately the Inselbuch bill granting a five-day week to city employes who are observing Jews and appealing to President Roosevelt in “the name of humanity, civilization and justice” to lift immigration restrictions for victims of persecution.
