America’s first and largest Jewish youth organization, Young Judaea, is now celebrating the twentieth anniversary of its founding, having grown from a single club in New York City to a national organization comprising almost twenty thousand Jewish boys and girls between the ages of twelve and eighteen, according to an announcement issued by Dr. Israel Goldstein, President of Young Judaea, who is also Rabbi of Temple B’nai Jeshurun.
In a proclamation sent to the five hundred clubs throughout the country Dr. Goldstein reviews the progress that has been made in American Jewry during the past two decades and concludes that these twenty years have seen the emergence of American Jewry from an unimportant section of Jewry to leadership in all Jewish affairs throughout the world.
The entire month of March will be devoted to anniversary banquets in every town where there is a Jewish community. The founders of Young Judea, of which Samuel J. Borowsky is today executive chairman, and Nathan Straus, honorary president, included the late Israel Friedlander, Dr. Judah L. Magnes, now chancellor of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem; Miss Henrietta Szold, member of the Palestine Zionist Executive, and Emanuel Neuman, president of the Jewish National Fund of America.
