The old song. “I am working on the railroad,” may become the refrain of Jewish youth from the diaspora next year. They are being invited by Transport Minister Gad Yaacobi to volunteer to help build the long projected Negev railroad that will link Eilath with central Israel. Zvi Zafriri, director of Israel’s admittedly sparse railway system, said he was making plans to implement Yaacobi’s idea and hoped the first overseas youth would be at work in the summer of 1976. He called the project a pioneering challenge that would give Jewish youngsters overseas a direct part in Israel’s development.
