The $4,200,000 deficit of the Youth Aliyah movement is threatening the very existence of the movement, Moshe Kol, Jewish Agency official in charge of the Youth Aliyah program, today told a press conference.
He pointed out that the program is threatened at a time when tens of thousands of Jewish youth in Eastern Europe and North Africa “are simply knocking at the gates of the movement.” He pointed out that the movement must bring to Israel and settle there at least 10,000 children a year in order to fulfill the purposes of the organization.
Despite the difficulties in which Youth Aliyah finds itself, Mr. Kol pointed out, it has agreed to aid the immigrants in the work camps this winter by caring for 600 children for three months in its various institutions. He also revealed that in view of the urgency of the situation the Hadassah has promised to give special attention to Youth Aliyah problems at its forthcoming national convention.
