A resolution “deploring the continued denial to the Jews in the Soviet Union of the elementary rights to free religious and cultural expression, community organization, and contact with Jewish communities in other lands,” was adopted at the convention of the Zionist Organization of America.
The resolution expressed hope that the Soviet Union “will put an early end to this oppressive discrimination and, on the grounds of common humanity, will make possible the reunion of families by permitting Soviet Jews to emigrate and join their relatives in Israel.”
In another resolution the ZOA called upon the Government of Israel to fulfill the will of the late “great Jewish and Zionist world leader and thinker Zeev Jabotinsky to transfer his remains to Israel.” Jabotinsky’s remains are buried in New York.
The convention also adopted a resolution noting with deep satisfaction the unification of the General Zionist forces in Israel resulting from the merger of the General Zionists and Progressives into the Liberal party.
