A resolution voicing support of the stand taken by the General Zionist party in Israel that the forthcoming elections there of delegates to the World Zionist Congress be held “only on the basis of a proper register of shekel holders qualified to vote” was adopted at a meeting of the Inner Committee of the Zionist Organization of America, the administrative body of the organization between meetings of its national executive.
The resolution was adopted following the action taken in Israel by the executive committees of the General Zionists and Mizrachi protesting against the rejection by the Jewish Agency executive of their request for the postponement of elections to the Congress for two months in order to prepare a register of voters. The elections have been set for June 12. Both parties in Israel have issued statements that they will bring the matter before the court of the Zionist Congress.
“The Inner Committee of the Zionist Organization of America appreciates the reasons for the stand taken by the General Zionists in Israel, supports their demand and authorizes the sending to them an expression of encouragement and support in accordance with this resolution,” the resolution says.
