The Zionist Organization of America is undertaking a survey among its nationwide membership to ascertain the potential for aliyah to Israel, it was announced here today by Max Bressler, ZOA president. The survey will be conducted by the ZOA Aliyah Committee of which Jacob M. Dinnes is national chairman.
Mr. Dinnes said that the survey is being undertaken in the form of a questionnaire to be distributed among ZOA members. He also said that his committee would assume the task of planning one and two year work and study program in Israel with a view to utilizing in the most productive manner the talents and skills of young Americans in the State of Israel in contributing to its future economic scientific and natural growth.
The program of the ZOA Aliyah Committee is being drafted in accordance with resolutions adopted by the last meeting of the National ZOA Executive Council. These resolutions provide for information to prospective middle class olim, in cooperation with the Economic Department of the Jewish Agency, preparation of one or two year study and work programs for American young adults in Israel, and proposed establishment of ZOA sponsored housing projects for American settlers in Israel, in accordance with plans submitted by the ZOA president.
“American settlers,” Mr. Dinnes stated, “can help not only by contributing their individual skills but also by their morale and stability. Israel needs the skills and morale and stability. The state of health of Israel’s population compares favorably with standards in Western countries, Including the United States, While Israel may not yet be able to compete with Western countries in its standard of living, Americans will find in Israel a new sense of purpose, and gratification in contributing personally to the development of that dynamic land. “
