A proposal for the erection of a statue in the Haifa harbor to welcome new immigrants, similar to the Statue of Liberty in New York harbor, has been approved by the Connecticut Zionist region for action by the next convention of the Zionist Organization of America.

Delegates to the state Zionist convention urged the ZOA to conduct a nationwide fund drive to finance the proposed statue as a gift from the American people to Israel. A preliminary sketch of the statue exhibited at the state convention showed a tablet of the ten commandments mounted on a Star of David as central theme.
