The charge that most young Jews in the United States are bereft of knowledge about Jewish tradition and culture and are “totally Hebrew-less” was voiced last night by Daniel Frisch, president of the Zionist Organization of America, addressing the first meeting of the National Commission on Culture and Education of the Z.O.A.
Urging the mapping of a nationwide plan for bringing the Hebrew language and literature into every Jewish household, the speaker asserted that Jewish leaders in America “must fearlessly think through the whole problem of Jewish education in relation to our own mode of life as Jews add to the state of Israel.” He emphasized that Zionist leadership in America does not propose “to carry through the Jewish cultural revolution in the United States single handed,” but will consult with all Jewish institutions and agencies concerned with the problem of Jewish education in this country.
