The declaration by Arthur Henderson, British foreign secretary, to the Council of the League of Nations yesterday, leaves no doubt that Great Britain will make no limitations for Jewish immigration in Palestine, August Zaleski, Polish foreign minister and his country’s representative at the League, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency today.
The intentions which Mr. Henderson demonstrated before the Council regarding the future British policy in Palestine “permit me to express the firm belief that the coming evolution of the Jewish National Home as foreseen by the Balfour Declaration will develop in most favorable conditions, assuring at the same time the general well-being of the country which will enable the creation of self-governing institutions for the benefit of the entire Palestine population,” M. Zaleski declared.
The Polish foreign minister’s statement created a surprising impression in Jewish circles here. It is being pointed out that not only does this statement lack the usual warmth with which M. Zaleski always spoke regarding Jewish interests in Palestine, but for the first time he injects the question of creation of self-governing institutions.
