A sensation has been caused in Vilna by the arrest last night of Mr. Zalman Reisen, the well known Yiddish writer, and editor of the Yiddish daily “Tog” there, and Messrs. Abraham Gordon, Dreher and Kacew, connected with its publishing staff, the last two members of the Vilna City Council, as well as a 70 year old compositor, named Abraham Bengis, following a search carried out by the police on Friday night, at the “Tog” editorial, administrative and printing offices, as well as at the private homes of the arrested persons.

The arrests are believed to have been made in connection with a proclamation printed by the illegal Left Polish Socialist Party, whose members have all been rounded up and placed under arrest.

On telephoning to Vilna, the J.T.A. here is informed that the police searches lasted all through the night. No definite reason for the searches and arrests have been given by the authorities. Following intervention by ex-Senator Dr. Schabad, one of the leaders of Vilna Jewrv, Mr. Reisen and the compositor Bengis were to-day released.
