Nathan Straus, President of American Jewish Congress announces that Israel Zangwill, the noted English Jewish novelist, playwright and essayist, has accepted an invitation to deliver the chief address before the next session of the Congress which will be held on October 14th and delegates to which are now being elected in different communities of the country.
The invitation was extended to Mr. Zangwill in behalf of the Executive Committee by its Chairman, Dr. Stephen S. Wise, after a meeting of the same was held at the offices of Mr. Straus on May 13th.
Mr. Zangwill will come to the United States, which he had not visited for twelve years, for the exclusive purpose of delivering this address and he will return to his home in England where he is engaged in pressing literary work after a stay of only a few days.
It was indicated yesterday by officers of the American Jewish Congress that Mr. Zangwill’s address will be in a large measure similar in scope to the memorable reviews of the Jewish situation which the late Dr. Max Nordau presented before different Zionist Congresses, and much gratitude was expessed that the foreemost Jewish writer in the world will head the next session of the American Jewish Congress.
