The Israel Zangwill Memorial Fund, a successful appeal for which was launched in November 1927 under the presidency of Lord Reading, intends to devote itself to assisting the publication of Jewish works of outstanding merit in English or Hebrew. The co-operation of Mrs. Israel Zangwill, Sir Israel Gollancz, Philip Guedalla, and Lucien Wolf will indicate the serious intentions of the Fund.
In his lifetime Israel Zangwill continually gave his time and thought to assisting literary beginners; nor did he spare himself financially on their account, the appeal issued by the Committee said. The Fund will strive to continue his work and at the same time create a memorial in accord with the spirit that animated his relations with all creative workers.
