“Diplomacy is only a second rate job. The job of a writer is to tell the truth”.
That was the retort made yesterday by Israel Zangwill noted British novelist to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency report from Cleveland that former Premier David Lloyd George had said that Zangwill was a great writer but not a great diplomat. Mr. Lloyd George was commenting on Zangwill’s speech before the recent session of the Jewish Congress that political Zionism was a failure.
Mr. Zangwill said he intended to tell America the truth in his lecture in the Town Hall November 7, adding:
“I anticipate the consequences. I have sent for Mrs. Zangwill so as to have one friendly person near to bury me and wind up my affairs.”
