Funeral services were held here this weekend, at Kibbutz Ayelet Haschacher, for Ze’ev Sheffer, former chief of Haganah, Israel’s pre-state defense army, and a member of the Knesset, Israel’s parliament He died at the age of 77. Born in Russia, he came to Palestine in 1913. He had served in the British Army during World War I, and in the Jewish Brigade in the second World War. He had been a founder of Histadrut.
