The Zim Israel Lines notified Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Nissim today that the SS Shalom will have only a kosher kitchen, ending a lengthy controversy with Orthodox elements which began when plans were announced for two kitchens, one kosher and one non-kosher.
The Shalom is scheduled to go into service next month. The company asked the Chief Rabbi to order issuance of a certificate of rabbinical certification of the ship’s kosher facilities. The request was transmitted to the Chief Rabbinate Council.
