Jewish Palestine today marked the first anniversary, according to the Jewish calendar, of the death of Dr. Chaim Arlosoroff with impressive ceremonies in various centers.
Dr. Arlosoroff, head of the political department of the Jewish Agency for Palestine and outstanding leader of the Zionist labor movement, was shot and killed by two assailants on the Tel Aviv seashore on the night of the June 16. Two members of the Zionist Revisionist party are now standing trial charged with the murder.
Memorial services for Dr. Arlosoroff were held in many parts of the country. A service was arranged at the Jewish Agency building here by the Agency and the Vaad Leumi, the Jewish National Council of Palestine. Addresses were delivered by Moshe Shertok, member of the Jewish Agency political department, and Miss Henrietta Szold, prominent American Zionist now residing here.
The Jewish Agency executive issued the following statement:
“The Zionist movement lowers its flag today at the year-old grave of its young leader.”
Tomorrow the unveiling of a tombstone on the slain leader’s grave will take place in the Tel Aviv cemetery. Members of the Zionist executive and the Vaad Leumi and representatives of Jewish Palestine will attend the ceremony. Attendance will be limited to invited guests only. The Palestine press today devoted much space to eulogies of Dr. Arlosoroff. A Jerusalem street will be renamed in his honor.
