The executive bureau of the Zionist Federation of France, meeting in closed session last night, voted unanimously to ask Andre Blumel, its secretary-general, to withdraw his letter of resignation and to continue his work within the Zionist movement.
M. Blumel, 61-year-old lawyer, sent a letter of resignation to Marc Jarblum, president of the federation, in the aftermath of criticism of his presidency of a Jewish committee which called a mass meeting to protest the French National Assembly’s ratification of the Paris accord to re-arm Germany. Although the text of M. Blumel’s letter and the one from M. Jarblum rejecting the resignation were never published, news of their existence leaked out over the week-end.
The executive meeting last night was called to consider the crisis in the leadership of the Zionist movement created by M. Blumel’s resignation and his failure to reply to M. Jarblum’s letter rejecting it. It was reported that the discussion last night was heated. M. Blumel is also honorary president of the Jewish National Fund of France.
