The past fourteen years in Zionist history have proven both the need and the practicality of a Jewish Palestine, Morris Rothenberg, president of the Zionist Organization of America, declared at a banquet here last night.
Rothenberg’s address was made at ceremonies during which newly elected officers of the Richmond Zionist district were installed.
James H. Price, Lieutenant-Governor of Virginia, welcomed the national Zionist president on behalf of the state.
“Fourteen years since 1920, when the new immigration into Palestine began.” Rothenberg said, “have not only vindicated the soundness of Zionist belief in the practical possibilities of Jewish settlement in Palestine and the fundamental Zionist philosophy of the inner spiritual need of a people for self-expression, but, alas, also have tragically vindicated Zionist warnings that a world torn by racial animosities made imperative the establishment of a national home.”
William H. Schwartzschild presided at the banquet. Dr. Lazarus Karp was re-elected president of the Richmond Zionist district. After the banquet, at the John Marshall Hotel here, a ball was given in Mr. Rothenberg’s honor.
