The Zionist Organization of America plans to close its offices on Wednesday while the funeral of Dr. Nahum Sokolow is in progress. The Z.O.A.’s executive committee met at its offices to plan some form of memorial for the late Zionist leader.
Morris Rothenberg, president of the Z.O.A., issued the following statement:
“World Jewry and the Zionist movement in particular have suffered a grievous loss in the death of Nahum Sokolow. He stood at the cradle of the modern Zionist movement by the side of Dr. Theodor Herzl, and in the many years that intervened, Nahum Sokolow rendered incalculable service in the political, cultural and other fields of Zionist endeavor.
“As president of the World Zionist Organization and the Jewish Agency for Palestine; as Hebraist, scholar, diplomat, writer and historian, he enriched Jewish life and letters. An irreplaceable figure has passed into Jewish history.”
