The Zionist Organization of America has gained 16,500 new members during the year and its membership now totals 107,000, it was reported at the ZOA convention here by Dr. Sidney Marks, executive director of the organization.
The convention closed last night with a decision to merge the ZOA national executive committee and the national administrative council into a unit to be known as the National Executive Council which will be headed by Abraham Goodman. In addition to electing Dr. Emanuel Neumann ZOA president, the convention elected Dr. Abba Hillel Silver honorary president. Federal Judge Simon E. Sobeloff of Baltimore and Morris Weinberg of New York were elected honorary vice presidents.
At a reception sponsored by the Jewish National Fund, a scroll was presented to Ernest E. Barbarash, editor of the American Zionist and director of ZOA public relations, honoring him with the planting of a grove in his name in Israel in recognition of his “three decades of dedicated service to the Zionist movement.”
