A resolution calling upon the European Zionist movement to intensify the understanding of Jewish values as a means of combating “the problems of assimilation, which is spreading in the Jewish communities,” was adopted here at the closing session of the European Zionist Conference, The parley was attended by more than 150 delegates representing the Zionist organizations in 15 European countries.
In its resolution aimed at fighting the assimilationist trend the conference called not only for spreading Jewish values but also for strengthening the unity of the Jewish people and the “deepening of national Zionist consciousness.”
In another resolution, the conference welcomed “with deep appreciation” the recent joint statement issued by the Israel Government and the World Zionist Organization, “regarding the common responsibility of the State and the Zionist movement for strengthening of practical Zionist work in the Diaspora.”
Other resolutions dealt with the situation of the Jews in the Soviet Union and the German scientists working on weapons of mass destruction in Egypt.
