Pleasure gained the upperhand over business at last night’s session of the Zionist Convention, when twelve Maccabi motorcyclists who are now touring the world, suddenly reached Atlantic City in the evening, and made an impromptu appearance at the convention hall.
The session was busy electing delegates to the forthcoming World Zionist Congress. Nevertheless it was interrupted to give the twelve sunburned, husky Palestinian youths a rousing welcome in the best American style.
The Maccabis answered the greeting with their Maccabi cheers and songs, and soon the session was transformed into a spontaneous concert of Palestinian Hebrew songs and spirited dances. The delegates immediately forgot the business at hand and joined the Palestinian cyclists in the dancing, which rose to such ecstasy that it was impossible to get the delegates back in the mood of a business session, and so it had to be closed at midnight.
The spontaneous concert, however, continued on the boardwalk. The dancing of the “Hora,” dance of the Palestinian pioneers, and the singing of Hebrew songs, attracted a large crowd.
