A resolution pledging Jewish students in this country to aid the integration of the so-called “Black Jews” in the United States into the general Jewish community was adopted here today at the conclusion of the 11th annual convention of the Student Zionist Organization.
Rabbi M.H. Paris, of New York, a leader of the “Black Jews,” commended the students on their resolution, stating that this was the first time a national Jewish organization had issued a specific statement on the problem faced by the “Black Jews. ” He said they have encountered difficulties in being accepted into various Jewish educational and social institutions in this country.
The convention, attended by 300 students from 125 campuses, adopted another resolution, urging American students to organize widespread protests against the persecution of Jews in the USSR; and also called upon German students in this country to help influence the West German Government toward withdrawal of German scientists at work in Egypt on weapons of mass destruction aimed against Israel. Still another resolution called upon Jewish students in the United States to spend at least one year studying in Israel or working within the American Jewish community. The SZO elected Charles Kleinhaus of New York, as its president for the next year.
