The hope that Zionist forces would be consolidated at Geneva next month to end the “Bruederkreig” (civil strife) in Zionism was expressed here today by Dr. Barnett R. Brickner of Cleveland, vice-president of the Zionist Organization of America, on the eve of his departure for the world Zionist Congress.
Dr. Brickner, who is accompanied by Mrs. Brickner, who will attend the Youth Aliyah conference, voiced confidence that the Congress, which convenes August 16, would find a formula to that end. He said the Congress should undertake the task of setting the “direction of the Zionist movement with reference to Palestine,” reshaping Zionist philosophy and working out a new relationship between Zionism and the refugee situation on the understanding that “not Palestine alone, but Palestine and others” held the solution to alleviation of the refugees’ plight.
Dr. Brickner expressed confidence that the Congress would re-elect Dr. Chaim Weismann to the presidency, declaring he did not believe this the proper time to change leadership “even if there were another to take his place.” The Brickners sail tomorrow on the Nieuw Amsterdam.
