Leaders of Zionist youth groups this morning began picketing the British consulate here, and the British Empire Building at Radio City, to protest against “the betrayal of the Jewish people by Britain,”
At the same time, the Synagogue Council of America announced that Thursday, Oct, 4, has been designated as a nation-wide day of prayer and intercession, to protes Britain’s refusal to open the doors of Palestine. Special religious services will be hold at 8 p.m. in virtually every synagogue throughout the country, the council said. In New York, a giant mass prayer service will be held at that time on the Nall in Central Park.
Meanwhile, the American section of the International League for the Rights of Mar. announced that it has sent the following resolution to Prime Minister Attlee, President Truman, British Ambassador Lord Halifax and Colonial Secretary George Hall: “The International League for the Rights of Man solemnly urges that the gates of Palestine be opened for unrestricted settlement by Jews to the end that they may establish there, without injury to the existing population, a free and democratic Commonwealth and that, pending decision with respect to this matter, the preposition of President Truman to admit, immediately, 100,000 Jews into Palestine be carried out.”
