The Zionists put up a vigorous fight in the elections to the local Soviets held recently in that part of the district of Cherson in which the Jewish region has been created, the Communist press reports. In many places, the Zionists put forward their own candidates although they did not succeed in getting any of them elected. About 80 percent of the electors went to the polls. The newly elected Soviets consist of 15 percent Communists, 15 percent Young Communists and 20 percent women. The remaining 50 percent are non-partisans.

Dr. E. D. Friedman is associate neurologist at Bellevue and Mount Sinai Hospitals.
