Elections of the American delegates to the sixteenth biennial World Zionist Congress which will be held in Zurich, Switzerland, beginning July 28, will be held on June 9 in Zionist districts, according to an announcement issued by the Central Election Board in New York, which is supervising the national elections for all Zionist parties and factions.
Sunday, June 9, was set aside in order to permit every Jew and Jewess who purchases a shekel, to take part in the democratic election of representatives to the Congress. Every one who becomes a shekel-payer by purchasing the fifty-cent shekel-the symbol of membership in the World Zionist Organization-is entitled to participate in the elections. All members of the Zionist Organization of America, Hadassah and Order Sons of Zion are automatically entitled to vote.
Unusual interest has been aroused in the election of delegates to this year’s Congress because of the importance of the issues which are to be taken up. The Zurich meeting will definitely give the decision of Zionists on the question of the extension of the Jewish Agency and the unifying of Zionists and non-Zionists for the rebuilding of Palestine. It is because of this issue that the American Zionists are aiming to send and unusually large delegation to the Congress.
An announcement issued by the Zionist Organization of America urges all Zionists to vote for the list prepared by the Organization since the candidates on that list are all in favor of the extension of the Jewish Agency and will support the plan when it is taken up at the Zurich Congress.
