The Jews of New York will pay honor to General Jan Smuts, noted soldier and statesman, at a reception on January 17, according to an announcement made by Meyer W. Weisgal, secretary of the Zionist Organization of America, under whose auspices the reception will be held.
General Smuts, who is expected here about the first of this year, was one of those who helped draw up the Mandate under which Palestine is now administered. Long known as a friend of the Zionist movement. General Smuts last week joined with Lloyd George and Lord Balfour in demanding that a searching investigation be made of the administration of the British Mandate in the Holy Land.
