Jacques Torczyner, president of the Zionist Organization of America, expressed “shock” today at the “harsh tone employed by the United States in censuring Israel’s retaliatory action” of last Sunday.
In a statement referring to Ambassador Goldberg’s speech in the U.N. Security Council yesterday condemning the raid on Jordan, Mr. Torczyner claimed that it was the “failure” of the United Nations “which has forced Israel to defend itself.” He added: “If the Soviet Union had not vetoed a mild resolution” in its last series of meetings “condemning Syria for its repeated aggressions and murderous incursions into Israel, this situation would have been avoided.”
