Several thousand children’s clothing workers were locked out yesterday by contractors who expect to secure better prices thereby from jobbers and manufacturers giving them orders for children’s jackets and knee pants.
Spokesmen for the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America, representing the locked-out workers, regarded the contractors’ action as ill-advised, and it was declared that active measures will be taken unless the Union members are put back to work.
Managers of the Children’s Clothing Contractors’ Association and the Knee Pants Contractors’ Association claimed to have a large percentage of their association shops locked.
A conference was held yesterday between union officials and the men’s clothing contractors with a view to securing an adjustment which will prevent any general disturbance in the New York clothing market.
