Great excitement prevails here following the action of the State officers who took over the Jewish bank known as the State Saving and Loan Co., after a shortage had been found in deposits and foreign exchange.

This action followed the discovery that Secretary Herman Castle, who has since disappeared, made false entries of amounts, which the bank is now short. He also took money for steamship tickets which he never forwarded to Europe. Many Jews have been victimized including institutions of which the Local Orphan Home is said to have lost $6,000.
