40,000 Jews of the Dagestan Republic on the shores of the Caspian sea, who follow agricultural pursuits, are suffering from famine and malaria and have appealed to Moscow for aid.

The Jewish mountaineers are barely distinguishable from the natives, wearing the same garb and speaking the Caucasian dialects.
