Jewish teachers of Government schools in Kamenetz-Podolsk have decided that hereafter the schools are to be closed on Sunday instead of Saturday, as was the case hitherto. This decision was made despite many opinions that “Voskresenya”, the Russian name for Sunday, has the connotation of the religious holiday. It was contended also in the Jewish towns Saturday is the real day of rest. Some staunch supporters of the Soviet policy went so far as to argue that where parents rested on Saturday, the schools should be closed that day.
All opposition appears to have been in vain and Sunday was decreed as the official day of rest for Jewish pupils.
