The new slaughtering of animals bill was given a second reading in the House of Commons today following Mr. Lansbury’s assurance that a special clause safeguarding Schechita had been inserted.
Objection to the second reading was raised by several members of the opposition, which was withdrawn when it became clear that at the meeting Tuesday evening representatives of English Jewry agreed to the bill provided no modification of the Jewish slaughtering ritual was proposed.
