Premier Meierovich and his Cabinet today handed their resignations to President Chakste. The fall of the Cabinet is said in semi-official circles to be due to the Socialists’ demand upon the Government for the suppression of the Fascisti who on May 1st last attacked a workers’ May Day demonstration. The socialist had threatened to withdraw their members from the government causing a break within the cabinet which led to the collapse of the Meierovics Ministry.

The press of the minority socialists today expressed its entire satisfaction with the resignation. The Jewish circles in particular are pleased because of the passing of Minister of Education Jailit who favored restriction against Jewish stuxents’ higher seats of learning.
