Discontinuance of the sequestration of church and synagogue property was decided upon at the meeting here of the Executive Committee of the Communist Party, it is learned. The Communists of the Ukraine are said to be particularly anxious to stop confiscation of church valuables, inasmuch as this and the conversion of synagogues into workmen’s clubs is responsible for much of the ill-feeling against Communists, and members of the party, it is understood, have been urged not to demand this confiscation.
It appears that the only element anxious to proceed with the dismantling of synagogues are the members of the Jewish Section of the Communist Party, who are said to have demanded that a departure be made from the rule of leaving churches alone. This attempt on the whole has failed, the anti-religion campaign proving successful only at Charkov, Odessa, and Kiev.
