Speaking before a delegation of relatives and friends of the seventy six young men of Governor Alfred E. Smith’s old neighborhood on the lower east side, who lost their lives in the war, former Assistant Distriot Attorney Alexander I. Rorke, in an address in front of the monument erected in Battery Park to the fallen dead pronounced the restrictive immigration law as “blot on the fair name of America”.
“When one looks over the names of the fallen dead”, he said, “one wonders how America can maintain a policy of restriction and still be loyal to those heroes. America is the country for all creeds, all nationalities and all faiths.”
