A Jewish rabbi, Professor Herman Gollancz, has been knighted by the British government. This is the first time in the history of Great Britain that such an honor has been accorded a Jewish clergyman.

Rabbi Gollancz is a brother of Sir Israel Gollanch, the noted Shakespearean scholar who is now visiting America.

The British government at the same time conferred the privileges of knighthood on David Davis, the Lord Mayor of Birmingham.
