For a long time the Yiddish schools, children’s homes and evening classes in Eastern Galicia have been under the management of three different committees-the Poale Zion, the Borochow organization and the Society “Our Children”. About six months ago the Poale Zion and the Brooch organizations united, and now the society “Our Children” has joined the common body so that all the schools in Eastern Galicia in which Yiddish is the language of instruction are now administered by one committee – the United Central Committee of the Yiddish School Organization in Eastern Galicia, it is called.
Up to the present there have been opened nine schools, twelve children’s homes and a large number of evening classes. The language of instruction is Yiddish but Hebrew and Polish are also taught.
A conference will be held shortly all the teachers being present, as well as representatives of the Yiddish school organization in Warsaw. A telegraphic message has been received by the new Central Committee in Eastern Galicia from the People’s Belief Committee in New York (after the conclusion of its convention in Boston) urging active reconstruction of the Yiddish school system.
