A military detachment of the Moscow Cheka, while passing through the town of Sebesh organized itself into several marauding bands and tried to rob the Jewish stores. The Jewish population, fearing a pogrom, became panic-stricken. Word was sent to the Commander of Wolodin, a neighboring town, and a military detachment was sent from there which disarmed the Chekists and sent them under heavy guard to Pskow.
