Chief Rabbi Hertz Protests Against Reform Teaching in Jews’ College

The Chief Rabbi of England, Dr. Hertz, wrote to the Jewish War Memorial Council protesting against a proposal before the Council to establish an academy of Jewish learning in conjunction with Jews’ College, which trains for admission into the Rabbinate, and is an orthodox institution. The protest of Rabbi Hertz was read at the meeting of the Jewish War Memorial Council held yesterday, and presided over by Lionel Rothschild. It characterizes the project, which is intended as a memorial to the Jews who fell in the War, as an outrage to the memory of the dead, as well as an offense to Judaism by perpetuating, through reform teaching, the religious schism. In consideration of Rabbi Hertz’ protest, the project has been deferred.
