That it is planned to convene a special Palestinian Congress of American Jews in the year 1925 was revealed today by Mr. Leon Levite, member of the Zionist Actions Committee, on the basis of a conversation he had with Dr. Chaim Weizmann upon his return from America.
Dr. Weizmann stated that before he left New York, Mr. Louis Marshall had submitted to him, on behalf of the committee of non-Zionists, who had participated in the conference on the Jewish Agency, the following proposal:
That a Palestinian Congress of American Jews shall convene in February, 1925. This congress should elected forty representatives to the Jewish Agency. All other countries should elect thirty-five representatives. The Zionist Organization should delegate seventy-five representatives. The one hundred and fifty should then form a Jewish Agency, which would electe a mixed Executive Committee.
The Keren Hayesod is then to issue a call for a collection of funds over a period of two years, totaling not less than forty to fifty million dollars. Belief was expressed that this sum could be collected, and that the rebuilding of Palestine could then be realized within the next twenty years.
The proposal of Mr. Louis Marshall will be submitted to the next Zionist Congress, which is to be held not later than January, 1925.
